Merry Christmas From AV

So we took a first annual staff photo for the AV department, here at good ol' Covenant Seminary. We cheezed it up and put it in the staff and student bulletins. So from the top left, Mike - Mike started with us this summer. The picture was his idea to start with. He is a full time student, and one of our audio techs. We trade secrets on good movies and TV shows and barrow each other’s TV series on DVD. Mark - Dean of students, a vice president and our fearless leader. April - our AV administrative assistant, and she also takes classes, her husband is a full time student here as well. Chris - AV director and wicket smart, he is a full time student. Me - (moving on). Josh - Full time student, also wicked smart, and he does all our media duplication and shipping for our distance learning. AKA, copy boy 3. And Todd - Moved from Atlanta with his beautiful family to be a full time student this fall. He is also a tech assistant, and pop media connoisseur. It has been an amazing semester working with all these fun kids, and I’m pretty confident when I say we are the “funest” department on campus! Merry Christmas!

Christmas Tree

This weekend we went to the Boy Scout Troop 6 lot for the third year in a row to get our Christmas tree. It is one of my favorite things to do in the Christmas preparations. I am so excited to take Arie Alex next year to get her first Christmas tree! She was there this year, but she didn't really make the pictures. I hate giving my camera to other people, b/c they don't know how to take pictures, but oh well, I guess this is good enough for the blog.

Saturday morning was my friend Andrea Matlock's baby shower. She is due March 10th, and also having a girl. It was a really fun shower and one of the guests knitted these adorable pink baby booties right there while Andrea was opening presents and then tied green a green ribbon in them that had come from one of the other gifts. It was amazing! I gave Andrea the fairy princess duck that tells you the temperature of the bath water. So ridiculously excessive, but completely fantastic!

Creator

I catch myself being that girl. The one partakes in the pregnancy talk around the table/room/lobby with other pregnant girls. I used to think that it was b/c there wasn't anything else exciting in life to talk about, once you've had kids. Once you've had kids, they become your whole world, and that was lame. Well, bring on the lame. It is really more exciting than I could have ever thought -- planning a
family. I'm not the biggest fan of being pregnant, it wierds me out
and as you might have read on the blog there was a few scary moments,
but really it just makes me look at everything in the world with this
whole new lens, and showing me how to trust God in a whole new way... As
Creator. I always thanked him as Creator, or was in awe of him as
Creator, or believed he was The Creator... But trusting that he can
really create a baby inside my body, as an active part of my minute to minute day... It's intense, and indescribable and insane! It makes me cry b/c I cannot express that level of trust in any other way.

I look forward to hearing your story as you go through this strange
and miraculous experience.

Pick of the Week: MU Beats KU 36 to 28!

It was an exciting night Saturday! Such a good game. MU beats KU to become ranked NUMBER ONE in the country, our quarter back is in the Heisman running and I got to see it all on a huge projection screen with my friends. KU did make it exciting and had they made their two field goals at the beginning we would have probably gone into overtime. They definitely kept me nervous b/c I know that it was in them to come back and make earn it even more. The Tigers were just ready, offense, defense, the fans, we were hot. I love football.

Halloween

I dress up as some sort of magical flying thing, with lots of glitter, almost every year. I am the only one who dresses up at my work and I go around and pass out candy. Today, I got to walk into a faculty meeting at Covenant Seminary, dressed as a five and a half month, pregnant, sparkly butterfly and give all our professors candy! It totally made my day!

This year, Tim had to work out of town on Halloween, but we got to carve our pumpkin before he left and King and went to visit friends Halloween night. We had dinner at Todd and Leah's and King got hot dog that fell on the ground at Starr's house. (Thanks, Pete!) We sat around the fire with Zach and Hannah and some other friends, and enjoyed our kind of warm, not rainy Halloween. We missed Tim though and are looking forward to next year when Arie Alex will be here to dress up with us!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! WE MISS YOU, TIM!!!

Pick of the Week: Vending Machine Skirt

I heard about this on the radio this morning, and I can't decide if this is brilliant or really stupid, but it was worth showing people for the pure strangeness. (I know that "strangeness" isn't a word) It is a skirt that turns into a vending machine so that you can hide from an attacker. Of course it comes out of Japan, and they also have a "safe" that starts out as a bag or purse, and then turns into a manhole cover/lid. You can ditch your belongings in the middle of the street and come back later to get them, without the average onlooker being aware of what they are passing up. Like I said, brilliant or stupid? You tell me. The link is below to see more pictures and read the article

M-I-Z Z-O-U Homecoming 2007

Last weekend I went to Columbia to catch up with some of my girlfriends from Columbia. We all went to high school and college together, and we have been doing the October reunion thing for three years now. This year we decided to go to Homecoming. Friday night I went to House Decks with Liz, Jon and Charlie. Saturday I went to the parade with my sister and Genese. Bethany and I then got a long over due Booche's burger. Saturday afternoon we watched the game at Liz's house. Where MU stopped Texas Tech 41 to 10. Then we all went to dinner at Flat Branch. I love Homecoming!

Chicago

Tim and I spent a weekend in Chicago a couple weeks ago. It was his brother's 30th birthday. Christine, Brian's wife, invited us all up to Chicago to surprise Brian the weekend of his Birthday. The boys played golf and the girls went shopping. Tyler and Graceanne showed us there Halloween costumes. Jake and Drew stayed back in Red Bud to play football on Saturday, and they were greatly missed! But we got to call them on the OnStar phone in the car. I loved it!

Christine and I got makeovers at a new store that was opening in Osego and then we all had an amazing dinner in the city. Christine me non-achoholic wine so that I could drink with everyone at dinner. She had chocolate bars with our names on cut out maple leaves at the table. She is so fun and thoughtful, and a great evening with the family.

Pick of the Week: Airawen Alexandra 20 Weeks

We went in for our 20 week check up yesterday. Arie Alex looks good! No more placenta abruption, no more placenta privia, and she is 11oz! She is in the 34% range on her weight, so we are going back in 8 weeks for another ultrasound to make sure her growth is on track. It was WONDERFUL having a check-up that was so positive. Thanks for everyone who has been praying with us for the health of our little girl!

Pick of the Week: Twirling

I was sitting in church Sunday when I saw them. The two or three little girls, all about three or four years old. Their parents sit near the front of the church and the little girls gather together during the singing part of church. They will stretch their dainty arms out to each side, get their balance, and twirl. Their flowered dresses spin around their knees as the spin in their buckled shoes. They twirl faster to the faster songs, and slower to the slower songs. They will talk strategy about their twirling and change directions every once in a while. I can just imagine the one girl to the others, "Do it like this!"

My friend, Hannah, was sitting next to me in church. She also noticed the twirling toddlers and pointed to them, and said, "You are going to have one of the those someday! Because the tears were already on the cusp, I let them fall. I couldn't wait! Tim and I just found out that previous Wednesday that we were having a girl. I leaned back toward Hannah, and responded, "I know! And I was just wondering, does someone teach them to twirl like that, or do they just know how to do it?" She shrugged and said, "You have to be pretty confident and not care what people think to twirl in front of everyone." I said, "Three and four year olds don't know how to care about what people think of them. Hannah nodded her agreement.

Then I started to think, "When did I stop twirling?" I started to remember the countless weddings I have been to over the past four years and there are always those two or three, three or four year old little girls twirling in the middle of the dance floor. It is usually just them, their parents are still eating dinner or none of the adults have felt that it is the appropriate time to dance yet. But the little girls are there, twirling. I have taken many pictures of this phenomenon and wondered, why is it so cute? Why are we so touched by this simple, innocent action? Is it just American little girls, or do little girls all over the world twril? When did I stop twirling? Do little boys twirl? Maybe to get themselves dizzy, but little girls put on their new dress, and fling their arms out to the side and watch as their dresses lifts and twirls with them.

I don't know that I have quite put my finger on it yet, but it is something about feeling beautiful, and free. Something about understanding what "alive" is for the first time even if they can't put it into words. Something about fun, and being comfortable just twirling by yourself or with your friends, and not even knowing how to care if others are watching you.

There is a quote, isn't there? About, "dance like no one is watching” Why is that important? My favorite quote from the movie Elizabethtown, "make time to dance alone with one hand waving free." I know what you are saying, "Well, I'm a grown woman. I would just look ridiculous!" So I am going to help you. Everyone care a little less about looking ridiculous, when there is someone there to look ridiculous with them. If you see me outside, or on a dance floor, or even in church, and you want to twirl, just ask me. I will twirl with you. And if you see me twirling by myself in the middle of an empty dance floor, and you are wondering, did someone teach her that, or does she just know?" The answer is both. I used to just know how to twirl. I think every little girl with a new dress does. But along the way someone taught me how to care about looking silly too, so I maybe stopped twirling so much in public. Now, someone or several someones along the way have taught be how to twirl again. Whether by twirling with me, when I didn't want to look ridiculous by myself. Or by just saying, "It's okay to twirl, you are beautiful!" Or even by example, of being someone who I have seen stretch your dainty arms out to each side, get your balance, and twirl.

Thanks you fellow twirlers, who spin with no hesitation because you understand that it has something to do with beauty and freedom. Being alive and having fun, and being comfortable with twirling even when everyone is watching.

Pick of the Week: Cake Comedy

Jim Gaffigan made me laugh really hard so I thought I would share. This video is his bit on cake. The Hot Pocket bit that he does, also made made my sides hurt.

Pick of the Week: Baby Mohr 15 weeks

So we had a little scare with the baby last week. There is a small placental abruption, a condition where part of the placenta has pulled away from the uterine wall. I went on bed rest for about a week, and went back to the doctor on Wednesday. The abruption is healing and they said everything should be fine. I just have to take it easy, no bull fighting or sumo wrestling in my near future. Although this experience has been a little frightening, so much good is coming out of it. We've gotten to see the baby a lot lately due to the formal ultrasounds to check the health of the baby, (pictures below) and we have been met with "a hurricane of love." (quote from Elizabethtown) Family and friends from church and work are loving on us well. Bringing us food and movies, sitting with me while I was "chained" to the couch, and tons of calls and emails. If I haven't gotten thank you in person yet, "THANK YOU." Tim and I feel very loved and connected. We hope to be able to pour out the love on others the way we have been loved this last week and half.
